Recap

Luxol snapped Starlites’ unbeaten domestic run with victory in the John Tabone Shield, led by standout performances from Darron Howard and Caleb Jones McCrary, the Luxol duo who have cleary gelled well together since joining the Violets over the summer. Howard’s 29 points were crucial, while Jones McCrary provided steady support with 19 points. Starlites’ Trevon Reddish-Rhone put up a valiant effort, finishing with 33 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep Luxol at bay in a fiercely contested match.

Luxol opened the game with a three-pointer from Howard, quickly followed by a fast-break layup and free throw from Jones McCrary to establish an 8-0 lead. Starlites responded through Matthew Scerri and Ian Felice Pace, closing the gap to 5-8, but Jones McCrary’s dominance inside the paint helped Luxol maintain control. Howard’s smooth shooting from outside extended the gap, and by the end of the first quarter, Luxol led 24-23 after Starlites mounted a late comeback with free throws from Reddish-Rhone.

Starlites gained their first lead of the game early in the second quarter as Andrew Aquilina’s three-pointer put them up 26-24. Reddish-Rhone and Scerri continued to push, with Reddish-Rhone scoring on a turnaround jumper to stretch the lead to six points. However, Luxol quickly found their footing again with a three-pointer from Vukasin Jandric, who made his return from injury for this encounter. Howard followed suit with another long-range shot, and Luxol pulled ahead 42-38. Despite a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Kolten Mortensen, Luxol held a narrow 49-48 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw Luxol regain the upper hand, with Jones McCrary and Howard exploiting their opponents in the paint. Starlites’ Reddish-Rhone continued his impressive performance, making several key free throws, but Luxol’s relentless offence widened the gap. Howard’s three-pointer and Jones McCrary’s fast-break layup pushed the lead to 71-63 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Luxol took full control. Jandric hit a crucial three-pointer to extend the lead to 85-72, and Howard added a dagger three to keep Starlites at bay. Reddish-Rhone tried to mount a late rally with a series of inside baskets and free throws, bringing Starlites within seven points. However, Luxol responded through Stefan Cappello, who was pivotal in the paint, scoring key tip-ins and layups. Howard’s late free throws sealed the gameto break Starlites’ winning streak.
