Recap
Depiro and Luxol faced off in a tightly contested BOV Division One fixture that saw Luxol maintain a slim lead throughout. Depiro opened strong with Dominic Tomasi hitting an early three-pointer, but Luxol’s Caleb Jones McCrary responded with steady scoring, giving Luxol a narrow edge. Cameron Cornelius kept Depiro competitive with multiple layups, reaching 10 points by the first quarter’s end, which closed at 21-19 in Depiro’s favour.
In the second quarter, Luxol’s Darron Howard made a series of fast-break plays, capped by a euro-step layup that pushed Luxol ahead. McCrary and Nenad Bukva extended Luxol’s lead, exploiting turnovers for quick points in the paint. Cornelius answered with a three-pointer, cutting the gap to just two, but Luxol held on, finishing the half up by 13 points at 31-44.
The third quarter saw Luxol’s perimeter shooting shine, with Isaac Xuereb hitting back-to-back three-pointers to increase their lead to 19. Depiro fought back through Nikola Bozovic’s inside play, scoring a hook shot and free throws that kept them within reach. Sean Galea and David Bugeja added three-pointers, and a late surge by Depiro closed the quarter at 51-66, maintaining hope.
In the fourth, Depiro intensified their efforts with Tomasi dominating the offensive glass, scoring crucial tip-ins to cut the lead to single digits. Bozovic continued his form, reducing Luxol’s lead to just seven points with a tip-in layup. However, Luxol’s Howard remained steadfast, hitting a driving layup in the closing minute to secure their advantage. Cameron Cornelius’ late three-pointer brought Depiro within three, but time expired before they could complete the comeback.
