Recap
The clash between Tigers BT and Valletta Lions in the BOV Division One saw a commanding performance from the Citizens, who dominated the game with precise shooting and relentless defence. From the outset, Valletta imposed their rhythm, with Nicholas Grech opening the scoring and Nikola Vasovic adding to the tally with a series of sharp three-pointers. Kendall Jordan kept the Tigers in contention, responding with a three-pointer of his own, but Valletta’s offensive cohesion proved overwhelming. Albert Varacallo’s three-point shooting provided a decisive edge, and by the end of the first quarter, Valletta held a 24-20 lead.
The second quarter saw the Tigers attempt to claw back, with Darko Mitrovic making crucial contributions in the paint. However, Valletta’s depth shone through as Vasovic and Piotr Stelmach converted turnovers into points, extending the margin. Varacallo continued to rain down threes, keeping Tigers at bay despite a strong inside game from Jordan and Sassoun Saakian. A late flurry from Valletta’s Stelmach ensured they maintained a 48-41 lead at halftime.
Valletta’s dominance became even more pronounced in the third quarter. Vasovic and Myles Carter led the charge, capitalising on turnovers and extending the lead to double digits. Stelmach was clinical in transition, converting fast-break opportunities into easy points. Despite Jordan’s valiant efforts, including fadeaway jumpers and second-chance layups, Valletta’s relentless scoring streak widened the gap to 81-56 by the end of the third period.
In the final quarter, Valletta maintained their stranglehold on the game. Carter showcased his versatility, scoring both inside and outside, while Varacallo continued to excel from beyond the arc, finishing with 33 points. Tigers’ Jordan remained their standout player, driving into the paint and adding to his impressive tally, but Valletta’s balanced offence proved too much to overcome. Late contributions from Jonathan Camilleri and Nelson Da Silva rounded off an emphatic victory for Valletta.
