Recap

Hibernians began their two-game week with a win against SiGMA Depiro on Thursday.

The Paolites started with intensity, but it was Cameron Cornelius who opened the scoring for Depiro with a fadeaway jumper. Tedrick Wolfe quickly responded with a three-pointer, setting the tone for his dominant night.

The teams traded early baskets, with Ivan Demcesen and Derek Brown keeping Hibernians in front. Cornelius was relentless from deep, knocking down consecutive three-pointers to push Depiro ahead, but Wolfe and Brown ensured Hibernians stayed within striking distance. A strong defensive effort led to transition opportunities, with Wolfe finishing on the break and Demcesen scoring inside. With Brown orchestrating the offence, Hibernians closed the first quarter with a 25-22 advantage.

Depiro looked to claw back early in the second quarter, as Brandon Porter converted from the line before Cornelius struck again from beyond the arc. Wolfe continued to attack, throwing down an emphatic dunk off a turnover, and Brown followed up with a fast-break layup to give Hibernians breathing room. Anton Axiaq added a floater in the paint, and Demcesen’s interior presence was key as Hibernians extended their lead to 43-37 at halftime.

Cornelius kept Depiro competitive in the third quarter with another three-pointer, but Demcesen and Wolfe remained dominant. Wolfe’s second-chance jumper and a fast-break three extended Hibernians’ advantage. Brown’s layups in transition helped maintain the gap, while Depiro tried to respond through David Bugeja’s jumpers. However, Wolfe continued his onslaught, scoring at will with a mix of drives and perimeter shooting. Porter and Miguel Brincat both connected on timely threes for Depiro, but the quarter ended with Hibernians still in command at 58-53.

The final period saw Depiro push back, with Brincat hitting a three-pointer to cut the deficit. Wolfe answered with a quick triple before Cornelius powered through for a layup. Porter converted key free throws to momentarily give Depiro the lead, but Matthew Gouder regained the advantage for Hibernians with a strong drive. With the game hanging in the balance, Wolfe once again took over, scoring inside and completing an alley-oop dunk to extend the lead. Brown’s steady presence ensured Hibernians stayed ahead, and Wolfe capped off his masterclass with a final transition layup. Despite Depiro’s late surge from beyond the arc, Hibernians secured the win, keeping their winning streak intact while Depiro continued to battle for their playoff hopes.
