Recap

Athleta and Starlites clashed in a fast-paced encounter in the MAPFRE MSV Life Women’s League, with Starlites showcasing their dominance, led by October’s BOV Women’s Player of the Month, Makaila Napoleon. Napoleon’s remarkable performance, tallying 24 points, was instrumental in securing Starlites’ victory.

The first quarter set the tone, as Camila Londono opened scoring for Athleta with a strong driving layup. However, Starlites quickly found their rhythm with a 12–2 run. Key contributions came from Michela Zammit Cordina, who drained a smooth three-pointer, and Napoleon, who asserted herself in the paint with six points, including a fast-break layup. Kennedi Williams managed a late response for Athleta with a fast-break layup, but Starlites closed the quarter leading 14–6.

In the second quarter, Starlites widened the gap through Zammit Cordina’s sharp shooting, which included a three-pointer and a layup off turnovers. Athleta fought back with contributions from Britney Agius and Londono, but their efforts couldn’t disrupt Starlites’ control. Napoleon continued to dominate, scoring four points in quick succession. The quarter ended with Athleta trailing 30–18, still unable to find answers to Starlites’ consistency.

The third quarter saw a spirited fightback from Athleta, led by Williams, who added eight points, including two fast-break layups. Julia Cipriott stepped up with six points, closing the quarter with two free throws and a strong layup. Despite this effort, Starlites maintained their lead, thanks to Napoleon’s reliable mid-range shooting and critical baskets from Mikela Riolo. Heading into the final quarter, Starlites held a seven-point lead at 41–34.

In the fourth quarter, Starlites pulled away decisively. Napoleon continued her scoring spree, adding eight more points, including two fast-break layups that showcased her athleticism. Zammit Cordina also delivered a crucial three-pointer to extinguish any hopes of an Athleta comeback. While Athleta’s Williams and Agius made late baskets, it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap as Starlites sealed their win.
