BIO

A writer with a flair for building brands and 6+ years of media industry experience. I have put this experience into practice as a sports journalist at the Times of Malta. I have also initiated my basketball podcast called The Worldwide Hoops. Finally, I have been occupying the role of Communications and Media manager voluntarily within a Maltese football club called Naxxar Victorians for the past 6 years.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Oct 2018 โ€” Jun 2024  Sports Journalist, Times of Malta

My involvement with the Number One media house in Malta consisted of creating sports-related articles about (but not limited to) my niche topics: basketball and football.

  • (Locally & overseas) Conducted news interviews, attended press conferences, and covered international sports events on the ground.
  • Acted as sub-editor for the newspaper and online portal.
  • I have run the departmentโ€™s social media since a revamp in 2023. Provided an organic-only expansion on Facebook (8.5K+ followers) and Instagram (899 followers) accounts within 12  months.

Jul 2017 โ€” Present Communications & Media Manager, Naxxar Victorians

In joining Naxxar Victorians, an amateur football club in Malta, I aimed to bring them to a higher level away from the pitch to complement the successes achieved on the pitch.
  • Re-introduced the clubโ€™s website and social media platforms, and maintained communication โ€“ internal & external โ€“  for a steady stream of information from the club to players (present and potential) and fans.
  • Created club campaigns for a rise to 1.8K+ followers (Facebook), 496 followers (Instagram), and 11K+ views on the club website.
  • Liaised with the Malta Amateur Football Association and its media department when necessary.

EDUCATION

Oct 2014 โ€” Nov 2019 Bachelor of Communications (Hons), University of Malta

Throughout my Communications Honours degree course, I received formal training to cultivate my passion for writing and creating different kinds of media, while polishing my skills in various areas.

  • Practiced and improved my writing skills, as well as A/V content while adhering to strict University protocol and deadlines.
  • Experimented with different writing styles โ€“ from Public Relations and Journalism, to scriptwriting and speeches.

Jul 2016 โ€” Feb 2017 Journalism & PR Erasmus+ Program, Westfรคlische Hochschule (Germany)

Through five months of international training in Journalism and Public Relations, I have garnered sufficient experience in the field, independence, and the well-established German level of accuracy.

  • Collaborated with a team of international students on a copywriting project called the European Youth Voice for the Aktuelles Forum organisation. The project placed third in the final Faculty end-of-semester competition.
